Reiki

Robin Ferranto - Reiki Master / Practitioner

About the Practitioner

Robin Ferranto began learning Reiki in 2003 in Imageresponse to a desire to lead a healing lifestyle.  As she noticed the improvements that Reiki has made in her daily life it is a natural extension to share it with others.  Reiki Master/Practitioner Robin Ferranto has been invited to participate in a Reiki/Master Teacher internship and is also working on a B.S. degree in Holistic Ministries from the American Institute of Holistic Theology.

Reiki

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.  It was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 1900's and was brought to Hawaii in 1938. Reiki comes from two Japanese kanji characters Rei and Ki.  The character Rei means "universal", "higher knowledge" or "spiritual consciousness" and Ki means the same as Qi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian, referring to the life force energy of all living things.  Therefore, Reiki can be defined as spiritually guided life force energy

Life force energy flows throughout and around the body of all living things. When this life force energy becomes unbalanced or disrupted due to stress, illness, physical injury, loss or trauma, we may experience depression, lack of energy, anxiety, physical discomfort or insomnia.  This can cause us to be more susceptible to illness.  Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways allowing healthy Ki to flow in a natural way.

The beauty and great strength of Reiki is its ease of use and learning; its flexibility of application; and its safety.  Because Reiki is guided by a higher-consciousness, it can never do harm.  Reiki honors the free will of the individual and is always used for the higher good of the practitioner/client and all concerned.  The Reiki energy flows through the hands of the practitioner to the client through a light touch and is absorbed and utilized for the healing of all manners of mental/emotional, physical and spiritual imbalances.  The Reiki practitioner is an instrument for the universal life force energy, which means Reiki flows through the practitioner.  The Reiki practitioner's energies are never depleted. In fact, the Reiki consciousness considers both practitioner and client to be in need of healing, so both receive a treatment.  Reiki is not a foreign energy; it is life force energy that flows through and around us all the time.  As Reiki flows through the practitioner in a concentrated form to the client they are gently guided to a place of healing and realization of their own potential.  The results of Reiki healing sessions are not always predictable, as once healing on all levels is initiated it will follow the path that is most appropriate, but not always the most obvious.

Reiki is both powerful and gentle. It assists the body in using its own natural healing mechanism to promote balance, health and wholeness. Rieki works in harmony with all other kinds of treatment; it compliments the healing process and should not be used as a replacement for your doctor's care. Reiki has been known to :

  • Promote relaxation thereby reducing stress
  • Reduce or eliminate chronic pain
  • Support mental and emotional health
  • Cleanse the body of toxins
  • Relieve and/or lessen illness and disease
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Accelerates healing
  • Initiates healing at the level of cause

Help to balance the body's natural rhythm and energy flow creating an overall sense of well-being

You will be fully clothed during a Reiki session. The Reiki practitioner will place his/her hands either just slightly above the body or very gently on the body, depending on the comfort level of the client. Typically the practitioner is in contact with the client through cradling the head and at the feet. Reiki can be administered to a person lying down or in a chair.

During a Reiki session, the client usually becomes very relaxed and experiences a great feeling of comfort and security. You may feel warmth, pulsing or tingling sensations coming through the hands of the practitioner. It is also perfectly normal that some clients do not feel anything during the session, but may later notice that subtle or nonsubtle changes have begun to take place.

It is important to know that anyone can learn Reiki, it is not dependant on intellectual capacity or the ability to meditate.  It is available to people of all ages and backgrounds including children.  Reiki has been taught to Catholic Nuns, Protestant Ministers, Buddhists, Doctors, Nurses and ordinary people. Reiki is not taught in the way other healing techniques are taught.  The ability is transferred to the student by the Reiki Master during an attunement process.  Attunement refers to the process of opening and strengthening the student to the source of Reiki so that it can be utilized safely, easily, and at will. Reiki training teaches you how to practice Reiki, and it is through practice that you deepen your understanding.

Reiki can be used for your own self-healing as well as for others, plants and animals included. Reiki works on all living things and is used in hospitals, clinics, hospice care, mental health facilities, spas, churches and homes.

Though Reiki is spiritual in nature it is not religious, meaning there is no dogma attached. It does not require a belief system and can be learned and used with great benefits regardless of your beliefs. Reiki does not conflict with any religious or spiritual practices but rather enriches and strengthens them.
